René Lalonde

Biography

New Modern Art of René Lalonde

Truly contemporary, Lalonde exihibits a straling range of complexity through the simplest of forms and vivid color. He delights the senses with his vision of our environment through wonderful winter scenes, still life, urban scenes of the 1950's and intimate interiors. The vibrant colors and luminosity of his work is authentic New Modern Art with extraordinary vision.

From his very first opening, when every one of his works was sold, to his annual exihibit at Artexpo in New York, Lalonde's creations invariably draw a crowd of interested people. He has such a special way of painting, mastering the color and the light; the first one enhancing the latest as a distinctive trade mark. Each brush stroke shapes the objects, gives them life and vitality, and dynamise the whole subject enlighting a detail here and there; always bringing softness to the forms.

Lalonde’s boarding school years from age six to twelve were decisive in his creating process. The ever present silence in which he grew brought him an inner peace that still inhabits him to this day and shines through his work Another influence came about in the early sixties with the Beatles and the musical British invasion that, combined with a lovely family life, good friends and first romances, created some of the best moments of his life.

In 1966 as the psychedelic revolution was surfacing he discovered the surrealists; Magritte, Dali, Ernst, De Chirico, to name just a few. He also noticed artists like Warhol and Peter Max of which he bought his first psychedelic posters. For years his life had been heavily influenced by the music world. When the seventies came along, much of the creative genius musicaly speaking of the late sixties came almost to a halt. That period reflected on Lalonde's work too. His passion for art diminished to the point where very few pieces were done.

Revival would come in 1978 when on a business trip, as a representative for a French art publisher, he decided to take along canvases and colors to paint in his hotel room at night. Two paintings were done and sparked new interest in his creating process. Later that same year he came up with his first solo exhibit in a Montréal gallery. All of the forty paintings exhibited sold on the opening night. That is probably when he really started to take his artistic urge more seriously.

Lalonde has always refused to limit himself to a certain style and specialy to the same subjects. Inhabited by so many interesting visions and creative trances, it would be impossible for him to be confined to one image type. It is important for him to share all of this with the world. Creating a peaceful winter night scene or a geometric work will bring him the same excitement.

In fact, René Lalonde creates images having in mind that they are to the people like a balm on the sometimes stressful world we live in. He even goes a little further in saying that subjects like the geometric paintings can bring the spectator the same satisfaction as the one of a solved puzzle. Once the initial excitement for the eyes has been tamed a very calm and serene experience awaits their mind and soul.

René Lalonde is in gallery since1978. In 1987 he met Pierre Séguin. Séguin believed in Lalonde's work since the first time he encountered it. From then on he has been is representative world wide and has elevated his carreer to an international level, showing art dealers the immense talent and potential that Lalonde has to share.

His paintings can be found in large corporate collections, as well as in countless private ones. Up till the beginning of 2004 he is represented in major cities throughout North America : Atlas Galleries, Chicago, IL ; Galerie Pierre Séguin, Montréal, QC ; Liss Gallery, Toronto, ON ; Michael J. Wolf Gallery, San Diego, CA ; Sabine Rose Gallery, Philadelphia, PA.

Then after a 15-year partnership with Pierre Séguin, he signs in exclusivity with Chalk & Vermilion (USA), probably one of the biggest art publisher in the world. Pierre Séguin is proud to have developed Lalonde's career to reach such fame.
