Since his childhood
Robert Gougeon always drew and painted the world in which we live. Humans,
animals and, most of all, nature were his privileged themes. Through the
years Gougeon has experimented various artistic techniques; ceramic,
sculpture, enamel on copper, graphic and photography were all different ways
for him to express the beauty of our universe. But painting remained his
favourite mean of expression, the best way for him to convey emotions.
His studies in applied
arts (1968) contributed to structure his compositions. The harmony of the
colours with the heightened contrasts in the shapes and the colours is the
dominant characteristic of his work.
