Restoration and Cleaning
Seldom have we
the opportunity to show you the results after proceeding with this type of
work. Recently the Fondation Sainte-Jeanne-de-Chantal of Notre-Dame-de-l’île-Perrot
launched an invitation to tender for the restoration of the two medallion
artworks on the right and left-hand sides of the main altar of the church.
The gallery, helped with his experts in restoration, was retained in order
to carry out this work.

|
Following is a summary of the different stages we had to go through:
-
First, in order to draw up the necessary work for the
restoration, we performed a visual examination of the artwork.
-
After this inspection, we recommended the suitable treatment.
-
Once the contract was granted we unhooked the artwork and
transported it to the restoration workshop. In this case the
artworks had not been taken down since the day they were
installed on the ogee mouldings inside the church, at the
beginning of the 19th century.
-
The
original canvas which was used as a support to the artwork was
worn. Moreover, with the years, dust, pollution and all the
smoke of the burnt candles had left deposits of dirtiness which
had blackened the artwork. The artwork was then mounted on a new
canvas and an in-depth cleaning was completed in order to give
back all the glare of the original pigment of colour.

|
-
Once the cleaning and the restoration were completed, it only
remained to varnish the canvas and hang it back on the wall.
-
In
this precise case we also have redone the gilding of the
framework with a fine gold 23 K leaf.
