I redecorated my home,
where should I hang my artworks?
This is done; you
succeeded in convincing your spouse to repaint your home. So now,
you have to reinstall the artworks. Don’t be conventional and take
this opportunity to change your décor and hang them in a different
place.
Often, should it be by
habit or because you fear to be mistaken, you will place them back
where they were, where in fact nobody see them anymore. By changing
the place your artworks are hung you give them a new life. Because
they receive a new lighting they will look different. You will
notice a detail you had never noticed before. A specific colour will
be more apparent.
However, when making
those changes you have to comply with some basic rules to make sure
you will give your artworks their full value.
First of all, let us
look at the hall. Avoid paintings with large patterns. Normally
artworks in the hall will be seen from close and large motives will
steal over you. On the other hand an artwork with small details will
allow you to better appreciate all the subtleties because the piece
will be closer to you.
The next room that is
privileged by most people is the living room. The set up will be
different depending on the size and the number of works you have to
hang. Here you have to pay attention to what I call the "stamp
syndrome" that is hanging a single artwork right in the center of
the wall so that it will seem lost. Think of a 16" x 20" painting
that you will place right in the middle of a 15 or 20 foot long
wall! If this is the only artwork you have to installed, you would
better place it at one end of the wall, above a small table or just
above the couch arm so that it will be more in harmony with the
setting. Generally speaking the artworks in the living room are to
be seen from farther and you can choose ones with bigger patterns or
sceneries with depth.
Your bedroom is
another apartment where you would like to be surrounded with
beautiful works. For this room calm subject will often be chosen.
Also, as the lighting is softer the hanging will have to be more
subtle. Enter in your bedroom as if it was the first time you were
getting in and watch where your eye glances to. This is probably the
place where you should hang your artwork. The reflex to install an
artwork at the top of your bed is not necessarily the best place to
place it, think twice before doing it!
Lastly, as you will
have understood it, have fun to move your works around, give you a
chance to discover all the richness they have to offer and that you
haven’t seen before.
If you are mixed up
with how to do it, do not hesitate to contact us, artwork hanging is
one of the services the gallery offers.
