Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol was not a musician but he was always going around with
them. The music, all types of music guided his work and his life; he
joined the precursors of all the times: rock, soul, pop,
underground, with the classical music omnipresent.
Graphic designer, film-director, producer, he was involved into
everything related to the musical world.
I knew more about his pop art period... the
Campbell's Soup Cans
and the numerous portraits of singers often
created from giant photos, enhanced with lines and vivid colours,
if not flamboyant. What did I discover? The illustrator of about
fifty album covers (dance music, classical music, albums of the
Stones, Aretha Franklin...)
Painter... ok. Sculptor? Definitively not the kind I appreciate… an
installation of approximately 30’ by 6’ made up of Britto boxe...
not exactly my taste, nor my type of art! As someone would say, I
probably don’t understand his art.
Texts recall his life. Not restful his life! I wouldn’t have liked
to be her neighbour. Two records playing at the top of one’s voice
at the time: Bach and rock! Or perhaps would you have preferred
these days when the same record was playing in loop, over and over
all day long?
His buddies were not restful either. As a proof, all the photographs
reporting his passage in the world of the music and presenting Liza
Minnelli, the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, Elvis Presley, Michael
Jackson...
In short, Warhol was an all time “disturbing” man. Notice that
someone cannot make a difference in the society and someone doesn’t
open up the way to change without disturbing the masses!
Personally, I would not recommend this exhibition; any how it
finishes on January 18. But this is all a matter of taste since my
son found it SUPER.
