GEORGIA O'KEEFE, a
Renowed Artist
Last December, La Presse published a chronicle on New Mexico
in its Holidays / Vacation section; the journalist Andrée
Lebel was reporting
on a journey to the places where the artist Georgia O'Keeffe painted
while living in New Mexico. She was describing the artist houses,
the interiors, her studio, the paths leading to the house, the
beautiful landscapes.
I took a real pleasure to read more about this American artist
(1887-1986), born in Wisconsin who ended her days in New Mexico
after having stayed in several U.S. states during her studies and
teaching.
I knew her for the tremendous flowers she painted in a revolutionary
style for its time, a mix of abstract and representative art, a
technique that has moreover always distanced her from her
contemporaries. I didn’t know about her prolific production of
landscapes. I also discovered that Georgia O'Keeffe sculpted.
I was curious and I wanted to learn more about this great
contemporary artist, so I visited her website at
http://www.okeeffemuseum.org.
Do the same, enjoy the tour, look at the different sections of the
permanent collection, read her biography, browse through the site.
